BACK NINE

Hole # 10 - BELLA VISTA

Beware this 311m par 4, there are many reasons that its stoke 4. Its length requires only a short, but accurate drive from an elevated tee. There is Out of Bounds down the left and a line of trees down the right. Even a slight slice with the prevailing wind off the left will end up in the Trees and the only saviour to a hooked tee shot are the 2 trees 50m from the tee. The green is exposed to the prevailing wind so putts can be tricky.

Pro's Tip:

A drawn long iron or 3/5 wood into the prevailing wind will leave a short iron into the green. Beware of ball flight approaching the exposed green in wind.

Danger Zone:Out of bounds all the way down the left influences drive and approach shots. A sliced drive on to the adjacent practice fairway requires a very high or very low second, or third, or fourth (Etc) shot.

Hole # 11 - TOM THUMB

Like the 10th the 145m Par 3 is influenced by the prevailing wind off the left. The green is guarded by bunkers left and right so a straight shot is a must. Hazard to the right and OB to the left will trap wayward shots. The green is elevated but is flat apart from the front portion

Pro's Tip:

marginally short tee shot will come off the green. Be straight!.

Danger Zone:

Hazard down the right almost to the green.

Hole # 12 - DEVILS ELBOW

The shortest par 4 on the course, a left to right dogleg at 254m can trap the unwary. The effective landing area is narrow with anything too far right ending up in the hazard. The tall trees on the left will capture a pulled or hook shot.

The green, often partially hidden, slopes from back to front and steeply off to each side, on the right into the hazard. Pro's Tip:

A risk – reward hole for big hitters, with the green being reachable. For the risk averse a short lay up (to 135m out) will avoid trouble

Danger Zone:

Avoid the hazard which lies along the right hand side of the fairway. The big tree on the left can also pose a challenge.

Hole # 13 - WAIKARE

Waikare, the 426m Par 5 has a left to right sloping fairway and landing area. A pushed or drive will likely find water or the sand protecting it. The second shot is either played over the corner protected by a large tree to the marker tree or is straight forward for a drive on the left of the fairway and long. The fairway is pretty wide for the second shot but bushes on the left and the right will grab the wayward shot. The approach shot is up at steep hill to a sloping (back to front and left to right) green.

Pro's Tip:

The drive is the hardest shot and a draw into the hillside can run on and set up an approach shot for the second shot

Danger Zone:

The water / sand on the right for the drive and the gobbling yellow tree 80m from the green on the right

Hole # 14 - SWAN ROAD

This 170m par3 runs parallel to Swan Road from the Men’s tee and requires an accurate tee shot to hit the green. The prevailing wind is off the left with sliced tee shot being collected by the road and out of bounds.

The road is not usually a problem for the 137m Par 3 for ladies as the tee block is away from the road.

The green slopes from right to left and is elevated on the left Pro's Tip:

Accuracy and be below the hole

Danger Zone:

OOB to the right and the hedge to the left of the tee

Hole # 15 - OUTLOOK

A great view backwards and forwards greets golfers from the elevated tee gives a great view of the hole and the scenery. The modest 319m par 4 often plays into the wind. The wide landing area is protected by out of bounds to the right and Sabrina (yes another one) to the left. The green slopes from right to left and is protected by a hump on the right that can give strange bounces.

Pro's Tip:

A slight right to left slope on the fairway requires a slight cut to be on the fairway.

Danger Zone:

OOB all the way down the right and trees to the right and short of the green can lead to high scores. Long approach shots can result in tricky chip back…and of course Sabrina

Hole # 16 - JERICHO

Only a medium length 358m Par 4 (5 for the ladies) downhill on the card appears easy, but the drive between two trees needs to be accurate. Even with an accurate tee shot the hole played in the wind can present problems for a long approach shot. The green is protected by Trudie’s pond 20m short of the green to the right and a bunker 10m short of the green to the left. A lay up way left is a good option for ladies and short hitters. The green is elevated to the right and is long but flat.

Pro's Tip:

A high fade over the tree to the left is a good option for the drive but not too far.

Danger Zone:

Part way down the right, replaced by a pine-wooded hazard and a big tree… bunker… pond…OB long you name it!!

Hole # 17 - TEMPTATION

A short par 4 - 230m for ladies, 282m for man, again requires an accurate drive. A large tree to the left and the irrigation storage pond to the right protect the landing zone. The shortness of the hole permits a drive on the green from both ladies and men’s tees for longer hitters, but requires taking on the hazard to the right in both cases. The green slopes from back to front with bushes behind..

Pro's Tip:

Be accurate or long

Danger Zone:

The hazard down the right or the pine plantation to the left for a hooked drive.

Hole # 18 - CLUBHOUSE

A short 289m par 4 with trees down the right appears and a narrow gap 40m from the tee appears daunting. The open practice fairway allows a sliced bail out with not a difficult approach to follow. A ball down the tree line either left or right will be in trouble. The green slopes slightly from back to front but is protected by three bunkers at the front.

Pro's Tip:

Not necessary to be straight on this hole and choice can be dependent on pin position.

Danger Zone:

A low pushed drive will find the yellow tree just ahead of the tees and a short approach shot may find one of the three bunkers (or all three!).

Hole # 19 - 19th HOLE
